Becoming a Provider

Following are a list of some of the requirements you must meet in order to qualify to be a Infant Care Worker with the Infant Care Services. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to supplement your family income and also provide a necessary service to parents in your community looking for quality child care. If you have a warm, nurturing manner and enjoy working with infants and toddlers, then please review the following requirements carefully.

  • We place a maximum of three children in the home under the age of five, including your own children. No more than two under the age of two.

  • The Day Nurseries act will aloow you to care for 5 children under the age of 5, however with the Infant Care agency we will only allow 3.

  • Although children do not normally use the whole time, you need to be available from 7 AM. to 6 PM. Monday to Friday.

  • You need to take the children outside for at least thirty minutes each day, weather permitting.

  • You need to be prepared to read stories to the children as well as put children’s music on for them. You also need to limit the television viewing to not more than one hour per day of children’s programming. No adult programming should be on when children are awake.

  • You need a current Emergency First Aid Infant/Child CPR certificate.

  • You need to have current immunization forms for any pets.

  • The agency cannot accept people who have smoking in their homes.

  • All people providing care in their home must live in a house and not a part of the house (ie. a basement apartment) and not have any extended non family members (ie. tenants) in the home.

  • You need at least three excellent references of people you have done child care for, and be able to provide their names and telephone numbers.

  • You need to be prepared for the agency to come and visit with you and inspect your home (you need to show us where the child will play, eat and sleep).

  • You need an area that is childproof for the child to play and you need to childproof your hazardous substances.

  • You need to be prepared to have a Criminal Check for you and anyone in your family who is over the age of eighteen.

  • You and your family need to have medicals and you need to have a Chest x-ray.

  • Our insurance covers the children while they are in your home, when out for walks, and at the playground. However it does not cover taking the child in the car. For that reason you are not allowed to take the child in the car.

If you meet the above requirements and are willing to follow the policies and procedures of the Infant Care Services, please call 905-277-9013 and a representative would be happy to meet with you to determine whether you qualify as a provider with the agency.
