Agency Information

We are a private licenced home daycare service that will place your child in a home in the area where care is needed. These homes are supervised on an ongoing basis. We provide both full-time and part-time care.

Our Philosophy
Infant Care Services Inc. attempts to meet the needs of children by offering supervised care within a family setting.  Providers are carefully screened.
Through a variety of daily experiences and the guidance of trained home visitors, our agency seeks to foster your child’s, physical, emotional, social and language development.

The service ensures this type of private home day care setting through the following:

·         Positive behavior management practices which are respectful of the child and their capabilities.

·         Encouragement of communication between the Service, Parents and the Infant Care Worker.

·         Providing healthy, safe and interactive daily care.

Eligibility
We place no more than four full-time children under the age of five in one home. This would include the Infant Care Workers own children. Although our focus is on placing infants, children may remain in the program as long as private home day care is required.

Hours
The service is available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday. We are closed on Statutory holidays.

Matching Families and Infant Care Workers
Following are the steps involved in selecting an Infant Care Worker for your child care needs:

·         The agency likes to conduct an enrollment interview in your home 3 to 4 months before your return to work; requirements for care are determined and questions you may have are answered.

·         Required forms are completed; a medical form will be left for your child’s doctor to complete.

·         The onetime enrollment fee is payable at this time.

·         Six weeks before your return to work, we will call to set up appointments to meet with you at a couple of specially selected, Infant Care Workers homes.

·         Once you have selected an Infant Care Worker we encourage you to meet the family of the caregiver and plan your transition schedule so your child can gradually become familiar with the home before routine care begins.

·         References are available for all Infant Care Workers.

Behaviour Management
Children are disciplined in a positive manner at a level that is appropriate to their actions and ages. Spanking and other forms of corporal punishment are prohibited. Your own views and philosophies on child management can be discussed at the initial meeting between you and the prospective provider.

Personal Care and Health Care
Infant Care Workers will follow these practices:

·         An ill child will be separated from the others and notes will be kept and communicated on the symptoms observed; arrangements will be made for the child to be picked up immediately.

·         Toys will be washed on a regular basis as well as maintained in good repair.

·         Bed linens used in playpens will be laundered on a regular basis.

·         Providers and children will practice good hygiene especially around food and bathroom routines.

·         Children will be encouraged to carry out self care and hygiene routines independently, if they are able.

Program Development.
Programs are re-evaluated regularly by our Child Care Consultant, Mrs. Marnie Taylor to reflect changes in the regulation under the Day Nurseries Act and to incorporate new ideologies on early childhood education development.  Orientation and training sessions are arranged for Infant Care Workers when they join our organization.  Infant Care Workers are fully trained in Infant CPR/First Aid.  As well, they are also visited monthly by a home visitor, who acts as a resource person.  Workshops are also offered for staff and providers on a regular basis.

Outdoor Activities
Our caregivers are required to take the children in their care outside every day, weather permitting.  The outdoor activities may include but is not limited to:

·         Early Years centres or library – if within walking distance.

·         Picking children up at school.

·         Playing in the playground – always checked for safety.

·         Use of equipment at the playground i.e. swings, slides, monkey bars, with the caregivers assistance.

·         Playing in caregivers’ backyard.

·         Walking in the neighbourhood.

On all of the above outings, your child will always be supervised by the caregiver.

Nutrition
If your infant is still eating baby food and drinking from a bottle, you must provide the food required in a container labeled with the child’s name. Once your child has progressed to table food and drinking from a cup, the Infant Care Worker will ensure that a healthy lunch and two healthy snacks are provided. In doing so the Infant Care Worker will follow the Canada food guidelines appropriate to the age of your child as well as taking into account any direction from you regarding any allergies or food preferences your child may have.

Children with Special Needs
Our program will accept children with special needs as long as the agency has an Infant Care Worker capable of providing the level of care the child needs.  Individualized programs will be developed to meet the child’s special needs.  Resource people and information will be made available to any worker in order to help with the child’s development.

Parental Involvement
When you, the parent, have chosen an Infant Care Worker that you wish to leave your child with, we assure you that we will have an active share in seeing that your child receives top quality care, and we are just a phone call away if there are any concerns.  We encourage good communication between yourself and your Infant Care Worker.  This ensures that your expectations and the Infant Care Workers concerns are considered and responded to appropriately.

Parents are encouraged to:

·         Provide clothing, bedding, diapers, wipes, baby food, and formula.

·         Tell providers the types of activities your child enjoys.

·         Spend a few minutes at pick-up to discuss the child’s day.

·         Communicate any concerns to the agency.

Equipment
The service will provide playpens, highchairs, and safety gates. A double stroller will be provided if we place two children in one home under the age of two.

Substitute Care
The service will arrange for an alternate provider, or give you a full credit, when the regular provider is unavailable or becomes ill.

Insurance
We carry $2,000,000 liability insurance on all our homes which covers your child when they are in the home, out for walks, or at the playground. It does not include cars. Therefore, the caregiver cannot transport your child in their car.
